Sacred Harp Singing Workshop, March 10, 2012, Warszawa
Time: Saturday, March 10, 10 am-4 pm
Venue: Freta 20/24A (KIK’s building)
Intro: Sacred Harp is the earliest American music, a unique tradition that brings communities all over the world together to sing four-part hymns and anthems. The tradition is a living, breathing, ongoing practice passed directly by generations of singers. Sacred Harp uses distincitve notation – shape notes.
Program: The workshop will begin with a short introductory lesson on shape note singing; this lesson will be conducted with beginners in mind however experienced singers may benefit as well. A significant part of the workshop will be in the format of an all day singing, with lessons on proper procedure, etiquette, and pre-convention readiness. Lessons on traditional Sacred Harp singing and leading will also be interspersed throughout the day.

Teacher: Steve Helwig is an experienced Sacred Harp singer and traveler. Lives in Eugene, Oregon. Cost: The cost of the workshop will be covered by donations collected on the day of the event. Suggested donation is 20-40 PLN.
